Andy Gargett

Andy Gargett is a Director based in our Melbourne office with a focus on Victorian and Commonwealth Government work.
Andy is a trusted senior advisor and executive known for resolving difficult problems and advancing stagnating agendas across the public sector. With significant experience as a public servant, independent advocate, and within the Australian Labor Party Andy is uniquely positioned to deliver value for clients. He is known for expertise in policy development, communications, stakeholder engagement, politics, governance processes and entity and systems design.
Most recently Andy was the inaugural CEO of the First Peoples Assembly of Victoria. Andy established robust operational foundations, governance processes, and built strong relationships with Victorian Cabinet Ministers to drive innovative and complex structural changes through the Treaty process. This included negotiating Australia’s first truth telling process, the Yoorrook Justice Commission.
In the Victorian Public Service Andy has been a senior executive across social policy reforms including the Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Family Violence. Whilst at the Department of Premier and Cabinet Andy delivered the award winning Deadly Questions communications campaign. Andy’s proactive problem-solving and risk management earned him a reputation as a “Mr Fix It” who can deliver results under pressure and utilise a government’s agenda to drive change.
In Canberra Andy has been a prominent political advocate, working closely with Federal Ministers during the Voice referendum. Previously he worked with Federal Ministers on closing the gap and family violence advocacy.
Andy completed a Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) at Monash University and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours majoring in Criminology and Political Science at the University of Melbourne.
