Albanese Government – Cabinet Reshuffle
On Thursday 16 January 2025, Prime Minister the Hon. Anthony Albanese MP announced a reshuffle to his ministry. This comes after the departure of former opposition leader and NDIS Minister Bill Shorten, who announced his retirement in September 2024.
This announcement refreshes the NDIS and Government Services portfolios in the lead up to the 2025 Federal Election, which must take place before the 17th of May this year.
The major changes are as follows:
Cabinet changes
- Anika Wells MP – Minister for Aged Care and Sport is promoted to Cabinet
- Amanda Rishworth MP – Minister for Social Services, also takes on the NDIS Portfolio
- Senator Katy Gallagher – Finance Minister, Minister for Women and Minister for the Public Service also takes on the role of Minister for Government Services
Ministry Changes
- Dr. Anne Aly MP – Minister for Youth and Minister for Early Childhood Education, also takes on the role of Minister Assisting the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme
A swearing-in ceremony for the new Ministers is scheduled to occur at Government House, Canberra, on Monday, 20 January 2025, at 9.30am.
It is expected that the opposition will also do a reshuffle of its Shadow Cabinet, with long-term frontbenchers Paul Fletcher and Simon Birmingham announcing their retirements late last year.
