WA Cabinet Reshuffle
WA CABINET RESHUFFLE – February 2006
New WA Premier, Alan Carpenter, today announced the details of his new Cabinet. Alan Carpenter was sworn in as the 29th Premier of Western Australia last Wednesday following the resignation of Dr Geoff Gallop due to ill health.
Pre-selection for Dr Gallop’s seat of Victoria Park will take place this week.
An additional vacancy was created with the resignation of Dr Judy Edwards as Minister for the Environment.
Key changes include:
- Alan Carpenter in addition to the role of Premier and Minister for Public Sector Management and Federal Affairs, retains the portfolio of State Development;
- John Bowler takes on the portfolios of Employment Protection (Industrial Relations) and the Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development. He drops the portfolios of Local Government and Regional Development; and Land Information, however, he retains Goldfields-Esperance; Great Southern;
- Fran Logan will take on Energy; and Science and Innovation. He previously held the portfolios of Housing and Works; Heritage; Minister assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure;
- Michelle Roberts gains the portfolios of Housing and Works; Consumer Protection; Heritage; Land Information. She previously held the portfolios of Police and Emergency Services; Community Safety;
- Mark McGowan will assume responsibility for the Environment; and retains Racing and Gaming; he drops Tourism and responsibility for Peel and the South West;
- Sheila McHale no longer has the Community Development portfolio and gains Tourism; Indigenous Affairs and retains Culture and the Arts;
- John Kobelke gains full responsibility for Water Resources and Sport and Recreation. He will no longer be responsible for the Consumer and Employment Protection portfolio;
- John D’Orazio has been elevated to take on the portfolios of Police and Emergency Services and Community Safety; and retains Justice;
- Jon Ford retains Fisheries; Kimberley; Pilbara and Gascoyne; and adds Local Government and Regional Development to his responsibilities.
New Ministers elected by Caucus to the Cabinet on 31 January 2006:
- Norm Marlborough will take on the portfolios of Minister Assisting the Minister for Education and Training; Small Business; and Peel and the South West.
Mr Marlborough is the Member for Peel and was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education and Training. He has been a Member of Parliament for 20 years. - David Templeman will become Minister for Community Development; Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure; Seniors and Volunteering; Youth.
Mr Templeman is the Member for Mandurah and was elected to Parliament in 2001.

- Eric Ripper – Deputy Premier; Treasurer; Minister for Government Enterprises; Minister Assisting the Minister for Public Sector Management;
- Jim McGinty – Attorney General; Minister for Health; Electoral Affairs;
- Alannah MacTiernan – Planning and Infrastructure;
- Ljiljanna Ravlich – Education and Training;
- Kim Chance – Agriculture and adds Food to his portfolio responsibilities; he also retains Forestry; the Midwest and Wheatbelt;
- Margaret Quirk – Disability Services; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests; Minister Assisting the Minster for Federal Affairs; and gains Women’s Interests.
