New Director General announced for Department of Premier and Cabinet
Premier Anna Bligh has today announced the appointment of highly experienced Queensland public servant John Bradley as Director General of the Department and Premier and Cabinet.
The Premier said Mr Bradley’s appointment to the senior role followed an extensive search and merit selection process and the impending departure of current DG Ken Smith who has been appointed Queensland’s Agent General and Trade Commissioner for Europe and Africa.
Mr Bradley is the current Director General of the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) and has previously held senior roles in government both in Queensland and Western Australia.
“After an extensive search and merit selection process including interest from interstate, I’m very pleased that John will take on this senior role to which he brings 20 years of experience in the Queensland and Western Australian public sectors,” Ms Bligh said.
“He comes to the position with a significant record of achievement in the environment and natural resources sector culminating in his appointment as Director General of DERM.
“John was previously the inaugural chief executive of the Queensland Water Commission, leading Queensland’s innovative demand management and water supply initiatives through what was our worst drought in a century.
“He has previously led electricity reform in Western Australia and gas sector public policy reforms in Queensland, contributing to the growth of our coal seam gas sector.
“He has diverse public sector experience, through holding senior roles in Treasury and as a senior advisor in the office of the Treasurer and in the rural adjustment, education and transport portfolios and in academic research.
“I welcome John to the role and know he will be firmly focused on Queensland’s future growth and development.”
Mr Bradley will take up the role on June 6.
Ms Bligh today took the opportunity to thank Ken Smith for his long and varied contribution to the Queensland public sector.
“Ken has made a huge contribution to Queensland over the past two decades, most recently in leading Queensland’s public sector since 2007.
“I wish him every success in his new role.”
