Elliot leads Hawker Britton’s practice in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Elliot brings over a decade of Australian and International experience in guiding government and business through major crisis and public policy reforms.
As a Chief of Staff in the Palaszczuk Government from 2015-2017 Elliot worked across multiple senior portfolios and managed some of the governments biggest first term reform programs including reducing public transportation fares and the introduction of ridesharing. During a period of minority government, he worked for the Leader of the House, engaging negotiating with crossbench members to ensure support of the Government’s agenda.
As a Senior Adviser in the Rudd and Gillard Governments in both communication and policy roles he was responsible for high profile public policy reform campaigns in animal welfare, social license, Queensland natural disaster recovery and agricultural issues. Elliot has run political campaigns in marginal electorates and counselled politicians on their appearances at Senate Estimates hearings. Working for the Federal Opposition he specialised in Senate scrutiny, procedures and practice.
Immediately prior to joining Hawker Britton Elliot worked in New York City for The Glover Park Group, a strategic communications firm where he worked for major American corporate clients and foreign governments with US interests. He also served as the Director of Public Diplomacy to the Australian Consulate-General in New York where he was responsible for Australia’s brand reputation and international media engagement.
Elliot holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Governance from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. He completed his masters’ thesis on the impact of disruptive technologies on government and industry decision making, a paper that has now been published in the Australian Journal of Public Administration.
He has had opinion pieces published in News Limited papers, appeared on ABC radio and written extensively for the McKell Institute where he is also a Fellow.
