Tasmania – AAA rating and Infrastructure Strategy

The Tasmanian Government yesterday made two significant announcements concerning the state’s finances and future infrastructure development.

Firstly, Moody’s Investor Service retained Tasmania’s AAA credit rating.

Next, Premier David Bartlett launched a 10 year Infrastructure Strategy representing $6billion worth of investment.

The strategy does not include funding for specific projects but will be used as a blueprint to direct investment in transport, telecommunications, energy and water.  Examples of possible projects include development of irrigation schemes, renewable energy and smart grids.

A Tasmanian election is expected for 20 March – Premier Bartlett is expected to officially call the election in the coming days.
