Rob is the latest addition to the HB team, bringing more than 25 years experience in problem solving and policy formulation at the State and Local government levels – across a number of areas, including sport, the environment, gaming and public transport.
Trained an English high school teacher, he served as a youth worker and community welfare administrator in local government.
In 1990, he was appointed research and policy coordinator for then-NSW Opposition leader, Mr Bob Carr. He worked as a senior official within the first two terms of the Bob Carr government. His positions included deputy chief of staff to the premier.
From 1995 to 2001, he was responsible for transport, environment, social policy and the Government’s legislative program.
Rob was responsible for overseeing mining, sport and recreational facilities as well as negotiating the historic regional forest agreements which served as the template for the State’s national park system.
Rob also worked at a senior level on the 1991, 1995 and 1999 State Labor Election campaigns.
From late 2001 until 2006 Rob gained further insight into the operations of Government, holding senior management positions in the NSW Department of Transport, Premiers Department – Strategic Projects Division, and the Department of Gaming and Racing.
At the Department of Gaming and Racing Rob oversaw the management of the I.P.A.R.T review into Gambling Harm Minimisation, chaired the NSW Liquor Industry Consulative Council and represented NSW on the National Alcohol Advisory Group who prepared the draft National Alcohol Strategy 2006-2009, he also chaired the Special Ministerial Advisory Group who assisted the Minister on the NSW Registered Club Industry governance Reforms.
Furthermore, he initiated a joint venture project with Diageo (Pty Ltd) producing a detailed information pack for the State Liquor Accords Program.
During this time, Rob wrote the “Review of Alcoholic Beverages that may Target Young People”, published in November 2004.
From 1987 to 1995, he was a councillor on Waverley Council in Sydney’s east. He also served a term as Deputy Mayor in 1990.
Rob is married to actor, Lynne McGimpsey, with two daughters. He is also proud that he captained the Sydney University Soccer Club to its 1st ever Grand Final victory at E.S Marks Field in Sydney in 1972.
