Laura joined Hawker Britton in 2007 having graduated from Sydney University with first-class honours in Political Economy and an Economics and Social Science degree. She was a recipient of the University of Sydney Scholarship in 2002 and was awarded the Phillip Noel Hartley Smith Distinguished Honours Scholarship from Sydney University's Economics and Business faculty. Her honours thesis examined the concept of legal nationality for corporations.

Laura has a detailed understanding of both public affairs and government though her experience working at both the NSW branch of the Australian Labor Party and as a graduate at NSW Treasury. Her work at the ALP included conducting and analysing internal party polling, giving her insight into the effectiveness of particular State and Federal government policies. Her work at NSW Treasury gives her an insider's perspective on the role of government, experience in writing government policy, and a thorough understanding of government's budgetary priorities.

Laura has a particular interest in social justice, and works voluntarily for the social issues lobbying group Get Up, which campaigns on issues such as workers rights, children in detention and the state of indigenous health.
