ACT voters went to the polls on Saturday 18 October and counting finally finished on the weekend. The result is as follows:
Labor 7 seats
Liberal 6 seats
Green 4 seats
Negotiations between the major parties and the Greens will continue this week. Importantly, the Assembly must sit within a week of the declaration of the poll so there is now a timetable to forming a Government.
Interesting points to note:
- Labor received the highest vote and the most seats in the Parliament;
- the Liberal Party has offered the Greens at least one Cabinet position in a possible Liberal Government;
- the Greens have not as yet elected a Leader; and
- Senator Bob Brown has been calling for the Greens to have two seats in the five- member Cabinet.
