Rudd Government Cabinet and Ministry

The Prime Minister has confirmed the new roles among the Parliamentary Secretaries, following the announcement on 18 February that the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Trade, Mr John Murphy advised he would be standing down from his position and that Senator Mark Arbib would be appointed as Parliamentary Secretary.

  • Greg Combet has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change.  His previous responsibility for defence procurement will be assumed by the Minister for Defence.
  • Mike Kelly has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Water, in addition to his duties as Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Support
  • Bill Shorten has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and will help with the rebuilding of the lives, homes and communities which have been devastated by the fires.
  • Anthony Byrne has been appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Trade in addition to his duties as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister; and
  • Senator the Hon Ursula Stephens will soon be sworn in to administer the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs to better reflect her duties as Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector.
