Appointments to DIPNR

Two new senior appointments to DIPNR were announced today.

CHRIS JOHNSON

Professor Chris Johnson, currently the NSW Government Architect, has been appointed to a newly created position of Executive Director, Urban Renewal.

Chris Johnson has been the Government Architect for a decade. He is a member of the Central Sydney Planning Committee and is the past President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (NSW Chapter).

He contributed to the architecture of the Olympics and has assisted in developing town centre plans for Newcastle, Gosford, Chatswood, Parramatta, Penrith, Windsor, Green Square and Hurstville.

He is Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney and at the University of Technology Sydney, and has written a number of books including Greening Sydney – landscaping the urban fabric, Shaping Sydney – Public Architecture and Civic Decorum, Celebrating Sydney 2000 – 100 Legacies, James Barnet, Australian Architecture Now and Geometries of Power.

GAIL CONNOLLY

Gail Connolly has been appointed to the position of Executive Director, Metropolitan Strategy and the Metropolitan Development Program.

Ms Connolly is currently Director of Planning and Environment at Campbelltown City Council. She is a member of several Ministerial and regional committees responsible for the development of release area planning strategies, State government policy development and organisational and financial frameworks.

In her new role, Ms Connolly will be responsible for the Metropolitan Development Program and will work closely with local councils to further develop the Metropolitan Strategy.
